The Italian subsidiary of Swiss food and drink group Nestlé has reached an agreement with trade unions to set up "Nestlé Baby leave", a policy allowing fathers – or "second caregivers" – to take 12 weeks of paid leave. The aim is to help rebalance family responsibilities to provide a boost to women's careers. Nestlé Italy will invest more than €1 million per year to fund the policy.
Under the agreement signed on 18 March by Nestlé Italy and the FAI-Cisl, FLAI-Cgil and UILA unions, fathers or second caregivers are entitled – as of 1 April – to 12 consecutive weeks of leave to be taken within six months of a birth or adoption. Individuals taking this leave will receive 100% of their pay and keep entitlements such as paid leave and the 13th month of pay.
