Italy: new Cisl federation for agency, independent or atypical workers

Organize the universe of independent and atypical labor. The Cisl jointed its two federations, the Alai (atypical workers) and the Clacs (independent workers) into a singled federation, the Felsa, to better organize atypical and independent labor, a universe which gathers almost two and a half million people. After the confederal congress ratified the decision in may (see our dispatches No. 090560 and 090522), the new federation started working on October 15, with the inauguration of its national structures and the creation of its local structures. It will be officially launched in January 2010 with a conference on the “Statute of Labor” (see our dispatch No. 090541), which the new Felsa general secretary, Ivan Guizzardi (former leader of the Alai) defined as the “modern evolution” of the Statute of Workers, the current Italian labor code.
