Italy: rubber and plastic industry social partners strike deal for their new collective agreement

After 12 months of tense negotiations, punctuated by 20 hours of strike, the Federazione Gomma Plastica and the Associazione Italiana Ricostruttori Pneumatici (AIRP) for employers and the Filctem-CGIL, Femca-Cisl and Uiltec-Uil unions signed, on January 8, an agreement renewing the national collective agreement for the rubber and plastic industry, which expired on December 31, 2012.  valid between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2015 and covering more than 140,000 workers in businesses such as Pirelli, Michelin, Goodyear, Prysmian, Cavi or even Bridgestone, it provides for a €124 wage increase for the average level and “improves” several normative aspects.

Economic part. Unions demanded a €135 increase for the average level and employers offered €118. The agreement provides for a €124 increase for this level, which will be divided in 3: €60 on January 1, 2014, €15 on October 1, 2014, and €49 on January 1, 2015. However, with a company agreement between the management and RSU or, where appropriate, with the competent local unions, the last increase may be postponed by 3 months in the event of a crisis.
