Italy: six ThyssenKrupp managers sent to criminal court for the death of seven workers

The six managers of ThyssenKrupp Acciai Speciali are being sued for the death of seven workers in the fire of the Thyssen site next Turin in December (see our dispatch No. 071035). It is the first time a managing director is sued for murder in a criminal court for a deadly industrial accident. According to the judge in charge of the case, this manager was aware of the risk incurred by the workers, but didn't take the necessary measures to avoid them. Many commentators think that this "historical" decision will lead to better respect of security standards in businesses. (Ref. 080913)

Almost one year after the industrial
accident which caused the death of seven workers in ThyssenKrupp’s factory near
Turin, on December 6, 2007, the judge for preliminary hearings at the Turin
Court, Francesco Gianfrotta, decided, on November 17, 2008, to send the six Italian
managers of the multinational to
