Italy: success for the first cross-regional strike organized by independent logistics unions
The first cross-regional strike (mostly Lombardy, Venetia and Emilia-Romania) in the logistics industry, called by the general meeting of logistics workers and the independent trade unions for 24 hours on March 22, paralyzed most businesses and the largest logistics centers in northern Italy. It was called to support the platform for the renewal of the national collective agreement in national merchandise transport, organized by the independent unions who are not a part of the ongoing negotiation between the confederal unions and employers. The strikers are also criticizing the untamed deregulation of labor in the logistics industry where, to cut labor costs as much as possible, large groups often call on subcontracting "cooperatives" where most workers are foreign.
