On 31 March, the general council of the employers’ confederation, Confindustria, designated Vincenzo Boccia to succeed Giorgio Squinzi as its head. 100 out of 192 votes were cast in his favor (198 total voting rights) as compared with 91 for his main rival, Uninidustria di Bologna president, Alberto Vacchi. Vincenzo Boccia will lead the institution under the banner of ‘growth, continuity, and change’. Vincenzo Boccia’s Confindustria will also be resolutely pro-European, and a haven for ‘a real Agenda for European Competitiveness” so as to facilitate “the return of industry to the center of growth.”
