For the first time in Italian history, there will be no-one from a left-wing party in Parliament. For the third time, Silvio Berlusconi won a majority in Parliament. Confindustria's outgoing leader rejoiced with this victory, while unions reminded the future government of the emergency concerning the wage issue. (Ref. 080302)
The PDL, Silvio Berlusconi’s party of “the people of liberty”, won a clear victory against Walter Veltroni’s Democratic Party (PD) with 47.2% of votes against 37.86%. For the third time in 15 years, the billionaire Cavaliere wins the general elections. This time though, he wants to be seen as “the statesman who changed Italy”. For his first Council of Ministers, the order of the day already concerns tax federalism, tax exemption for extra hours, and efficiency bonuses.
