Italy: the outgoing government and the future chairman of the board are ready to work together to save Alitalia

Romano Prodi's outgoing government and Silvio Berlusconi's representatives started meetings to find a "two-party" solution to avoid Alitalia's bankruptcy. To guarantee the company's continuity and carry its privatization through, the first would be ready to give the company a State aid. Silvio Berlusconi mentioned the possibility to start talks with other buyers. As for unions, they are happy about this inter-party cooperation to make sure that Alitalia's situation won't worsen during the transition period. (Ref. 080319)

After Vladimir Poutine’s visit, the Cavaliere mentioned the possibility that

in November 2007, could come back in the game. However, Mr. Berlusconi said
that he has nothing against Air France, but that he would like Alitalia to
