Italy: the three union confederations call for a national demonstration to change the government’s economic policy

“A big, unitary union demonstration opening a series of claims on labor and taxes” announced CGIL leader Susanna Camusso, when she presented the unitary national demonstration of the three confederations, in Rome on June 2, during the press conference organized in the capital yesterday with the general secretaries of the three confederations.  Pointing out that “there has never been a union demonstration on June 2,” (so as not to disturb the traditional celebrations, notably the military parade in the morning, the national demonstration will be in the afternoon), Camusso reminded the “symbolic value” of this choice, which aims to remind the government that Italy is a “democratic Republic based on labor” as written down in the first article of the Constitution.  Warning about the seriousness of the crisis, she said that workers and pensioners are nearing their “breaking point,” which is why, “before reaching this point of no return, it would be good if the government changed its economic policy” she warned.
