Yesterday on the 45th anniversary of Italy’s Workers Charter (statuto dei Lavoratori) the CGIL majority union mobilized thousands of workers to protest threats facing this ‘pillar’ of Italy’s labor code as well as to call for a new statute that would be more in line with te demands of today’s labor market.
In 1952 the CGIL first put forward the much-debated Workers Charter that was finally adopted in 1970 and has since then become a pillar of Italian labor law.
