Italy: towards a single collective agreement for the service and transport sector

The agreement signed between the two social partners completes the negotiation started following an agreement signed with the Ministry of Labour on November 21, 2007 and that envisages the implementation of a new single agreement for the sector, covering for the first time all employees of the local public transport, the railway activities and the services. For this purpose, the agreement of January 24, 2008 will make it possible to align the deadlines of the different national collective agreements, in order to harmonise them and set up a single normative and economic convention that will include one for the local public transport and another for the railway activities. This is why the economic validity of the latter, concluded over the period 2003-2006, was renewed only for one year, with a rise in wages in 55 euros and the compensation of 660 euros "una tantum", in accordance with the claims of the trade unions.
