Geolocation to improve service. Ericsson had planned to start using a new geolocation feature on the smartphones carried by their technicians as part of their work in the field, knowing their location would allow the company to respond more quickly to urgent calls from customers. On 23 October, the company Ericsson Telecomunicazioni S.p.A. reached an agreement on the use of a geolocation system for its field technicians in order to “optimise services”. The unions are glad that they have managed to avoid this new system becoming a tool for monitoring workers from a distance; they have secured the guarantee that the data collected “cannot be used for evaluative and/or disciplinary reasons”.
