Italy: unitary strike on May Day in the commerce sector

While the CGIL, Cisl and Uil celebrated May Day with a national unitary demonstration in Marsala, Sicily (where Garibaldi’s expedition of the Thousand landed in 1861 when conquering Italy), honoring the 150 years of Italian unity, with the slogan “Work Unites the Country”, in the rest of the country the union break widened during the official celebration of workers’ day this year.  Despite all this, trade federations remained united against the derogations on the opening of stores in some cities.  In Florence, and then across Tuscany and in Milan, Filcams-CGIL, Uiltucs-Uil and Fisascat-Cisl called for a strike all day against this derogation, which they said was an “affront to May Day and the sector’s workers.”
