New legislation permanently adopted on Friday 11 September removes an earlier three-year limit on the length of time companies could use temporary workers to carry out the same function. Going forward, companies can use temporary staff indefinitely, as long as they consult with unions and employ different workers every three years.
The new law comes into force on 30 September 2015. It does away with the former three-year limit on companies using temporary staff to carry out the same job. The three-year limit however remains a reference point in so far as should companies wish to continue using temporary staff to carry out jobs beyond the three-year limit, then they must consult with unions and change the individual being hired to carry out that function.
