After one of the biggest Lithuanian employers, the cathode ray tube (CRT) producer Ekranas, went bankrupt earlier this year, national and regional governments are preparing to undertake some measures to reduce the negative social after-chocks in the region. (Réf. 06769)
Ekranas was in the top 10 list of the biggest employers in Lithuania, employing about 4300 workers in a parent company and 1000 employees in its subsidiary company. Redundancies will increase the unemployment rate in Panevezys’ (5th largest city) region from 3,2 % to about 6,2 %. In addition, the bankruptcy of Ekranas has negatively impacted a couple other large Lithuanian companies, for example quartz sand suppliers and manufacturers of electronics components.
