Lithuania: new Lithuanian Federation of Manufacturing Unions

Long negotiations for this merger.  During the negotiations before the official decision, the leaders of the Lithuanian Chemical Industrial Workers Trade Union Federation (Lietuvos chemijos pramonės darbuotojų profesinių sąjungų federacijos) and the Federation of Energy and Electrical Workers Trade Unions (Lietuvos energetikos darbuotojų profesinių sąjungų federacijos) signed a cooperation agreement setting out the conditions for the future organization, to think about new statuses and discuss operational strategy and key objectives.  “When we saw that we work increasingly bumping into each other, we decided to start working together.  We worked on pairing the different unions’ teams to better represent workers’ interests and defend their rights” explained Juozas Neverauskas, leader of the energy federation.  The restructuring should also rectify and improve the quality of services offered to the members and optimize income and spending.  The new federation will be called Lithuanian Federation of Manufacturing Unions (Lietuvos pramonės profesinių sąjungų federacija).
