Talks between the government, the Luxembourg Confederation (CLC) and the LCGB and OGBL trade unions ended on 3 September without a full agreement. While a compromise was reached on pension reform, other issues remain unresolved. The government said it would now put forward its own amendments to legislation on Sunday work and shop opening hours.
At the close of the third round of tripartite talks on 3 September, the Luxembourg government issued its conclusions after the social partners failed to secure a comprehensive deal. Agreement was reached, however, on the main elements of pension reform. The statutory retirement age will not be lowered as proposed by prime minister Luc Frieden in the spring. It will remain at 65, but the conditions for early retirement from the age of 60 will be tightened, with the required contribution periods
