On 17 January 2019, a landmark agreement was signed between Spanish hotels group Meliá Hotels International and the IUF (International Union of Food, Agriculture, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers’ Associations) that aims to help prevent sexual harassment.

In a press statement published on its website on 24 January 2019 by the IUF international trade union, ‘this new agreement was signed by IUF secretary general Sue Longley, and Gabriel Escarrer, vice-chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International and is part of the process that was initiated in the 2013 agreement by the international union and the hotel group on workplace rights,’ (c.f. article No. 130817), and which is included in an Annex.
