On 3 December, Mexico’s left-wing government announced that the minimum wage will increase on 1 January 2026, rising from 278.80 to 315.04 pesos per day (€14.87 or €452 per month). This represents a 13% increase. With this hike, the basic wage is “at its highest level since 1980”, said Marath Baruth Bolanos Lopez, secretary of labour and social welfare. Since coming to power in October 2024, President Claudia Sheinbaum has stated her intention to “restore the purchasing power of minimum wages”,
