Nearly 14 million economic forced workers in the world, ILO says

Across the globe, the number of people doing forced labor, victims of sexual exploitation and of modern slavery is around 21 million, denounces a new report by the International Labor Organization (ILO) published on May 20 and entitled, “Profits and poverty: the economics of forced labor.”  Among these 21 million, 14.2 million are victims of traffic with a view to economic exploitation.  In the private sector, forced labor generates $51 billion in illegal profit every year in the world.  Overview of the most exposed countries and sectors.

The target is the Asia pacific region, with almost 8 million forced workers. Nearly 50 percent are in construction, manufacturing, mining, public utilities services (4.97 million), then domestics (1.9 million) and finally agriculture and fishing (1.04 million). Africa is the second target with 2.5 million forced workers, particularly in agriculture and fishing (1.13 million) as well as construction, manufacturing and mining (840,000).
