Whereas the unionization rate throughout the country is stable, one of the three trade-union organizations of the Netherlands, the Federation of the Dutch trade unions (FNV), lost 1,7 % of its members in 2005. To prevent a new disaffection of Dutch employees, some trade unions are offering “flexible” memberships. (Ref. 06228)
The 81 000 new memberships registered last year did not compensate for the loss of 102 000 members, which is explained mainly by retirements. The main trade-union federation thus lost 1,7 % of its members. All in all, the FNV has 1,12 million members (compared to 1,2 million in 2003).
