The agreement reached on February 9th by the DHL transport and logistics group and the trade unions marks the end of restructurings. DHL’s 3,000 Dutch employees have job security for one year, until January 1, 2012. The 2% wage increase is in the average of the high increases negotiated this year in the private sector, even though unions originally asked for 3.1% as well as the maintenance of a “rotating bonus” for employees going from night shift to day work. The Federation of Netherlands Unions (FNV) managed to order a study on work overload. “The management wanted to remove work exemptions in night work teams (10pm-6am) for employees over 58, which we refused” said Egon Groen, FNV negotiator at DHL. From now on, bonuses will be determined at the level of each of DHL’s 14 terminals in the Netherlands, not centrally. Negotiations went smoothly, with six meetings spread between November and December, as planned.
