Mindsets are changing in the Netherlands : 34% of employees are now ready to work up to 65 years old, while there were only 26% in 2005, says a national study published on May 8, 2008 by the Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs. (Ref. 080385)
Although many people are still vividly opposed to the extension of active time in some sectors, such as building, in other sectors on the other hand, such as agriculture and fishing, 40% of employees are ready to work until 65, the new legal retirement age. The government sees in this new way of thinking the “results” if the debate it started in 2003 on working time. Today, average retirement age in the Netherlands is 61.
