After two 24-hour strikes in November where 8,000 people turned out, only 4,000 mailmen came to the last strike movement.  A fourth strike is going to be organized on December 15th, announced, on Saturday, the Federation of Netherlands Unions (FNV) and the Federation of Christian Unions (CNV), the two key federations.  This is not a good sign in a country where strikes are always seen as the last resort.  Out of a total workforce of 23,000, TNT Post wants to cut 11,000 jobs by the end of 2012 and generalize part-time (see our dispatch No.  100655).  Unions want to lower the number of redundancies, which already came from 4,500 down to 3,100 in October, after a first strike threat.  This number could be brought to 2,300 after a recent agreement in principle was signed between TNT Post’s management and unions.  The only problem is that the base of the FNV and CNV federations rejected the agreements.
