The talks which were supposed to take place on November 18, 2008 between the social partners to conclude a "crisis" social agreement in the reduction of working time were postponed. Negotiations are stuck on a financial obstacle, since the government wants businesses to reimburse compensation the unemployment insurance gives employees. (Ref. 080907)
Employers don’t want to reimburse later, as the government proposes, the unemployment insurance (WW) which would be used to compensate employees whose working time would be temporarily reduced. Following the system considered (see our dispatch No. 080871), employees would work less during six month periods which can be renewed three times.
