The system, introduced in 2004, consists in a proportionate reimbursement of social security contributions. This year, it will allow 8.2 million adults affiliated to the National Health Office (NHF) to get reimbursements. The average amount will be 90 euros. People affiliated to the NHF are civil servants, self-employed people and top executives. The health insurance reform (Zorgverkeringswet) which came into force on 1 January 2006 will extend this system to everybody.
