According to figures published on last 12 May by the ministry of Social Affairs and Employment, dismissals fell by 12 % in 2005. On a total of 142000 files trated last year by the Center of work and income (CWI), 75000 related to dismissals via an amicable agreement (-18% compared to 2004) and 68000 involved a legal procedure (-6%). Before any dismissal, employers must indeed obtain the agreement of the CWI, independent public organization placed under the supervision of the ministry for Social affairs and Employment. This institution, which employs 4 500 consultants in 130 agencies, functions as a national agency for employment, is notably in charge of checking the regularity of files submitted by the applicants for unemployment compensation.
