Yesterday, the Labour MPs of the PVDA (Party for Labour and Progress), member of the coalition ruling, threatened to block the postal market's liberalization, planned for January 1, 2008, if measures are not taken to protect post employees better. In parallel, the post employees' union (BVPP) threatened to launch a "serious social conflict". (Ref. 070376)
A question debated in Parliament. The CDA – Christian Democratic Appeal – also in the coalition, refused to forbid the practice which consists in paying employees according to their results (notably the number of covers delivered for mail carriers) and which corresponds to a claim made by unions and the left. During a parliamentary debate on the new postal law, on April 11, a majority emerged in favor of the CDA’s liberal position.
