The 2020 Congress of IndustriAll Europe, the European union federation, which had been scheduled for May of this year, was postponed until June 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Nonetheless, IndustriAll Europe’s executive committee refreshed its general secretariat on 1 July with the appointment of two new deputy general secretaries, Isabelle Barthès and Judith Kirton-Darling, who become the first women to join the leadership of the union organisation. They will work alongside Luc Triangle, who remains in place as general secretary of IndustriAll Europe, and Michael Vassiliades, who continues as president of the organisation.
The two new appointments have been significant contributors to IndustriAll Europe, helping it become the organisation it is today.
Isabelle Barthès joined the European Metalworkers’ Federation (EMF, one of the union federations that helped form the larger organisation) in 1996. She has been responsible for a range of key policy areas, notably company policy, meaning she has been a point of contact for several large groups.
Judith Kirton-Darling has also spent many years working at European trade
