Following calls by both the Confederation of Unions for Professionals, Norway (Unio) and the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO), the country’s government has presented a draft law seeking to clarify part-time workers’ rights to full time work by way of available full-time jobs. In a bid to complete their current working hours, part-time workers can also indicate a preference for such jobs, even if on a part-time basis.
Given that a significant number of females had been working on a part-time basis and with gender equality being the underlying motive, in 2005 the Working Environment Act included regulations giving priority to part time employees when employers were announcing new full time positions.
