Following three weeks of strikes, an agreement has been reached in the oil services industry. The parties to the deal are Industri Energi, the Norwegian union for employees in the energy sector, and Norsk Olje og Gass, an employer federation bringing together companies in the petroleum industry. Industri Energi is satisfied with the agreement, but it does not settle the differences which exist between the union and SAFE, another union made up mainly of workers at oil firms and which had to renegotiate an agreement reached in July, under pressure from the former.
A strike which intensified the rivalry between the trade unions. Industri Energi negotiates the agreement on oil services (“oljeserviceavtalen”), which applies to workers which perform ad-hoc services at oil rigs but cover other duties when their services are not required. Meanwhile SAFE deals with the agreement for oil firms (“oljeoverenskomsten”), which regards operators, drillers and catering staff which work, in general, on a timetable of two weeks/four weeks off, and have a higher salary.
