The pressure is rising at Fiat-GM in southern Poland. On February 28th, negotiations between trade unions and the management on the introduction of a new work organization failed. The social climate remains very tense at Fiat-GM because 81 million Euros of investments depend on the negotiations' results. If negotiations fail, the management says it will invest this money in India, Turkey or Brazil. (Ref.06205)
Saturdays could become normal working days, whereas today working on Saturdays is optional and is paid overtime. According to the management, the new system does not at all change the working hours pattern: the work week could never exceed 40 hours, workers would work some Saturdays, and the work week would have 4 or 6 days. This reorganization is linked to a new production line. Wage increases are planned.
