A law to greatly limit Sunday shopping in Poland was passed on 30 January 2018. The law, which will also ban trade on public holidays, will be gradually implemented from 1 March. However, a number of sectors will be exempt under the law, which has been strongly criticised because of a lack of clarity.
Shops have traditionally been open on Sunday, so the new law constitutes a significant change for Polish life. Under the new law, trade will be prohibited on Sunday and public holidays, with some exceptions. The changes will be implemented gradually: from 1 March 2018, shops will be open just two Sundays per month, and from 1 January 2019, this will be reduced to one Sunday per month; as of 1 January 2020, the law will come into full force, with trade banned on every Sunday of the year bar...
