According to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Labour and Social Policy, 700 000 Poles were legally employed throughout the EU in 2005. The number of illegal Polish workers is impossible to define, though the number may be high given the development of cheap air connections with the UK and Sweden.

The Spokesman of Citizens’ Rights claimed that in 2005 Polish consular services in Ireland, the UK and Sweden made 815 interventions and half of them referred to labour issues. According to him, P
