Going forward victims of moral or sexual harassment in a company or administrative service in Portugal will be afforded better protection. The law adopted in August 2017, and which came into force on 01 October, defines relevant responsibilities in greater detail. Thus going forward neither the whistleblower nor any witnesses can be subject to disciplinary action within the organization. All companies with more than 7 staff are obliged to adopt a code of conduct and a list of companies breaching provisions will published.
A law that protects. The law that was adopted treating moral and sexual harassment in the workplace fills a legal lacuna. The new legislation clearly states that harassment is a serious crime and gives victims the right to compensation. Witnesses to and whistleblowers on abuse and harassment will now be better protected and they can no longer be subject to disciplinary sanctions.
