Portugal: business support programme seeks to promote economic recovery after Covid-19

At the end of July, the Portuguese government adopted an economic activity support scheme aimed at encouraging companies to gradually resume their activity or production after having benefited from the special short-time working scheme introduced in response to Covid-19. The idea is also to enable workers to gradually return to the wage levels they enjoyed before the pandemic. The new mechanism is in force until December 2020.

New short-time working schemes. The simplified short-time working regime set up in response to the impact of the health emergency (see article n°11721) has been replaced as of 1 August by a new scheme offering differentiated support, depending on the level of decline in company turnover.
