Portugal: early retirement reinstated in 2015

The government has decided to re-instate early retirement in 2015 The measure can only apply to people aged 60 and over with 40 years of pensions contributions. In the 2016 the freeze on early retirement will be completely lifted. A government-revised calculation of the coefficient for the sustainability of the social security system sets the legal retirement age in 2016 at 66 years and two months.

From January 1 2015 private sector workers in Portugal will once again be able to opt for early retirement, once they are aged 60 and over and have contributed for 40 years to the pensions system.
