Portugal’s government has secured support from employers and the UGT union on its Labor Code reform project that aims to correct certain aspects of reforms undertaken during the crisis. The CGTP union did however refuse to sign the document. The government believes this reform project is innovative in so far as it addresses uncertainties facing workers and re-establishes certain collective safeguards and guarantees. The draft law is set to be put to parliament for examination in mid-July.

This time round and the Labor Minister, Vieira da Silva affirms that the new text represents a real combat against uncertainties facing workers. The government is seeking a fast passage for the text and it should be submitted to the national assembly by 06 July at the latest.
