The SBSI union (Banking trade union for the south and the islands) has established a new trade union body by way of merging UGT affiliated bodies representing Banks in the Center of the country, Portugal’s Insurers, and all Insurance Businesses. Legal statutes for the new entity, Mais Sindicato (Extra Union), have been lodged for approval by the labor authorities. The goal of the new entity is to broaden coverage to those not working with banking or insurance employment contracts, especially those working in service provision businesses.
Goals : Mais Sindicato is looking to extend the population for which it advocates to include staff not directly employed within the banking and insurance sector. This means extending advocacy to those in satellite sectors such as advisory, IT, and maintenance, as well as further afield to periphery businesses such as the SBSI managed hospital that employs 1,500.
