Workers at AutoEuropa, the Volkswagen factory in Setubal, near the Portuguese capital Lisbon, are set to strike on Wednesday 30 August. They are opposing the move to a six-day working week, which seeks to meet production needs amid the construction of a new model. Having supported the company’s plans, the workers’ commission at the company has resigned.
Workers at the Volkswagen factory in Setubal – located around 30 kilometres from Libson – decided on a 24-hour strike, which will begin on 29 August at midnight. Social dialogue has always been a feature at the factory and the strike was approved by employees by means of a referendum. Workers were opposed to the idea of working on Saturdays, as part of efforts to increase levels of production.
