From July 2018, Portugal’s independent workers will be able to enjoy broader social cover. ‘Green Receipts’, the invoices used by independent workers, will enable faster access rights to unemployment compensation and independent workers will also be able to enjoy better sick leave conditions.
Unemployment compensation. Workers using the ‘Green Receipts’ system ( those who earn at least 80% of their income from a single entity), will be able to open the right to unemployment compensation after 360 days of work, instead of the current 720 days. In addition to this halving of the daily threshold, the compensation amount is to be set at 65% of the worker’s gross remuneration paid over the 360-day threshold instead of the current monthly ceiling of €1,072.
