Portugal: telecoms operator Altice launches second phase of voluntary departure programme

Altice, which purchased Portugal Telecom, the longstanding Portuguese telecommunications operator, has just commenced the second phase of its voluntary redundancy programme. The plan primarily targets workers over the age of 55 and with at least 15 years of service; currently some 2,000 workers fit those criteria. Under the plan, those that opt for redundancy can keep 80% of their salary until they retire (between the ages of 65 and 67, depending on annuities). In 2019, the first phase of this plan, dubbed “Pessoa” (person), allowed the conventional termination of the contracts of 850 workers. Some 2,000 applied for redundancy.
