The reform of the labor code was adopted by the Portuguese Parliament on Friday November 7, thanks to the socialist majority, but only by a whisker. Born from social dialogue, this new code was presented as a symbol of Portuguese-style flexicurity. (Ref. 080875)
Short majority. Five socialist MPs voted against it, as well as the communist party and the left bloc. In the opposition, the PSD (social-democratic party, liberal right) and the CDS (democrats) abstained. Consequently, the new code was adopted by a short majority: 121 votes for and 109 against.
