Autoeuropa, the Volkswagen plant in Palmela near Lisbon, is to get back up and running on 27 April. Only two production shifts are planned so that the constraints of the Covid-19 protection plan can be properly managed. Some 2,300 workers, or half the workforce, are affected. The decision was taken in consultation with the workers’ committee. The new working conditions resulting from the epidemic will be examined, in order to determine how business should continue from 11 May, before a full resumption of activity around the middle of June.
Production to resume under monitoring. Half of the 5,600 workers at the Volkswagen plant in Palmela will resume work on 27 April under certain conditions. Shifts are six hours long, instead of eight, and they will be worked by two teams of 1,150 workers. In principle, the arrangements should allow the necessary social distances between each workstation to be observed. The other half of the workforce will work the following week, once again in two six-hour shifts.
