On 23 November and following four years of discussion and debate, Romania’s chamber of Deputies adopted a legislative proposal on social dialogue. While the text, originated by the left-wing Social Democratic Party, was opposed by the ruling centre-right National Liberal Party, it was eventually passed with 198 votes in favour, 13 against and 46 abstentions. The text gives trade unions both new rights and powers vis-à-vis employers as well as the possibility of carrying out political activities
