After months bargaining, the Romanian government finally increased minimum wage, from RON 600 to 670 (approximately EUR 143 to 160). This is more than the IMF recommended but less than what unions asked for. The latter are still hoping to "get by" this decision by making employers accept a higher increase within the framework of a national multi-industry agreement, in the process of being negotiated. On Wednesday, November 24th, alongside the vote of the Act on the salarization of the public sector, the Boc administration also passed the increase of gross minimum wage. Currently amounting to RON 600, it will amount to RON 670 gross a month as of January 1, 2011.
