Social partners from the mechanical engineering industries' sector have not yet signed the collective agreement for 2008-2009. Unions are asking for a 7% increase, which they justify by the Slovakian economy's unique growth, as well as by the constant increase in profits and labor productivity in the sector. As for employers' representatives, they propose a 3% wage increase and want to impose jobs classification. A strike warning is laid down until March 4. (Ref. 080112)
According to the mediator of the Ministry of Employment who stepped in the conflict, social partners made true compromise to find an agreement in the field of wages but negotiations failed because of jobs classification: unions think it should be established in cooperation with employers’ representatives, which employers’ representatives say that unions do not have experts to properly carry this task through.
