Slovenia: important demonstration to claim wage increases

Over 70.000 persons demonstrated in the streets of the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana, on November 17, on the country's union organisations' call. It was the most important demonstration since the declaration of independence in 1991. Demonstrators asked for higher wage increases than what employers offer. (Ref. 070969)

Slovenian union organisations, supported by student and retired people organisations, organised this demonstration to protest against the confederation of Slovenian employers’ proposition in favour of a 3.5% wage re-evaluation. This increase in too low to compensate the country’s inflation.
