Spain: agreement at Renault to maintain Spanish sites

Wage freeze and mobility in exchange for new models. The draft agreement of the “Pact for Employment and Competitiveness at Renault Spain” was signed by the management and the UGT, CCOO and CCP (Confederación de Cuadros y Profesionales) unions. It is valid for four years (2010-2013). It will only come into force if the general management grants the production of new models to Spanish sites. The agreement was signed after tight negotiations, whereas the management was threatening with not granting the production of new models, including an electric car, to ensure the viability of the Valladolid site, the carmaker’s largest in Spain. In exchange for maintaining the work load, the 10,000 Spanish employees accepted a wage freeze, more flexibility and mobility, the creation of a new professional category and lower wages for new employees. The general management’s announcement is expected for the beginning of October. Here are the key measures of the “Pact for Employment and Competitiveness.”
