Companies in Spain with more than 50 employees will have to draw up plans to support trans people in employment and implement anti-harassment protocols. They are also committed to organising specific training to raise awareness among their teams of the need to respect diversity and to ensure the inclusion of LGTBI people, by avoiding discrimination during recruitment interviews or internal promotions.
“We will be the first country in Europe to have legislation regulating the working conditions of LGTBI people,” said Spanish labour minister Yolanda Diaz when announcing the agreement negotiated with trade unions and employers, which sets out a framework for protocols and accompanying measures to facilitate the integration of people into companies, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
